Plant Manager

Permanent, full-time position in Vlaardingen (hybrid work possible)!

The client is a family-owned company that provides high-quality bakery solutions to customers around the world. For many years, the company has been developing high-quality bakery ingredients and products to become a recognized and leading partner for bakers and culinary professionals worldwide. Production takes place in several locations in Europe, including the Netherlands.

Royal Steensma is an innovative company recently acquired by Dawn Foods. Royal Steensma specializes in the production of high-quality ingredients and flavorful semi-finished products for the retail, bread, pastry, chocolate and ice cream industries. The Vlaardingen plant has about 85 employees, about half of whom work in production. Among other things, the plant produces a range of almond and kernel pastes, an important product category, as well as a range of dry bakery mixes for both industrial customers and consumers.

The Vlaardingen location also houses the Food Innovation Academy (FIA). FIA is a state-of-the-art training and research facility where food companies, schools and government work together to train the next generation of food and bakery professionals. The FIA is owned by Dawn and the Plant Manager serves on the institution’s board.

Partially as a result of the acquisition of Royal Steensma, Dawn Foods seeks to appoint a Plant Manager who will demonstrate leadership in guiding the transformation of the Vlaardingen site and leading it to long-term success. Direct reports are the Production Manager, the Head of Technical Services, the Process Technologist and the QC staff. The Plant Manager leads the plant MT, which consists of both direct reports and indirect reports from support functions such as Supply Chain, R&D, Finance and HR.

The position is based in the southwest region of the Netherlands and reports to the VP of Operations.

JOB PROFILE

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead all activities within the plant, including directing, advising and managing (in)direct reports to ensure strong team members and team performance;
  • Achieve results including sustainable profit, conversion cost reduction, LTA reduction targets, complaint reduction and delivery performance improvement;
  • Plan and achieve results within continuous improvement projects.

Main Activities:

  • Drive all operational processes and ensure timely, compliant and efficient production and delivery of orders;
  • Develop multi-year plan, budgets and KPIs, monitor CAPEX execution and make adjustments as needed;
  • Create a collaborative culture and optimize communication between departments and with other functions and locations within Royal Steensma / Dawn Foods.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Distinguishing characteristics of the candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Engineering and/or Manufacturing and at least 5 years of experience leading a manufacturing organization;
  • Knowledge of and experience with Lean manufacturing;
  • Demonstrated experience with change management, restructuring or turnaround processes in a manufacturing environment.

Required candidate competencies:

  • Developing organizational talent, creating a work environment where people can reach their full potential, and enabling the organization to meet business challenges;
  • Entrepreneur with a positive attitude, resilient, can manage multiple options and scenarios simultaneously and is a true “people manager.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English.
